Days 47 – 51

It was an eventful week on the house build last week.  A lot happened and changed in a short space of time.  All of the internal walls on the ground floor were marked out and the framing for the outside was started. Over the course of a couple of days the outside walls were put up – which really gave us a feel for the how the inside was going to be.  We went into where living room is going to be and were confronted with this huge framed hole in the wall.  This was going to be our window.  We knew it was a big window but didn’t comprehend just how big until we saw the gap for it.

After the outside framing was up, the weather decided to change and it snowed (see Proper Snow post).  This didn’t stop the work though.  They started to put up the sheeting for the side of the house on the day it was snowing.  The next day, after spending 2 hours shoveling the snow out of the house, they built the staircase down to the basement (no more climbing in through windows 🙂 ).  Finally on the Friday, the garage started to emerge.

So, there was a lot of progress last week.  We have been told that the plan for next week is to get the same amount done – and a bit more 🙂

Day 44

Today our builder started back on our site.  It was great to see the project moving again.  In the day our builder and his team (2 others) had put up all of the framing for the internal walls in the basement and all of the ceiling joists.  It was amazing to finally see the actual rooms and the sizes.  It was very difficult to imagine what it would look like when it was a slab of concrete.  It is also looking bigger now that the rooms are going in.

We are now also getting a feel for where the first floor level will be.  We knew it would be higher than the original ground level, but we didn’t know how high.  I am not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but, from the original ground level it is about 5 feet higher.
