Each year on the last weekend in September Tatamagouche celebrates Oktoberfest. \u00a0Overnight the fronts of the shops on Main Street are transformed. \u00a0Another transformation is the rec centre in the village. \u00a0It is here that the Oktooberfest takes place. \u00a0In its normal state it is the local ice rink and sports hall, but over the course of a few days a group of volunteers transforms it with streamers, balloons and lights. \u00a0The seating around the edge of the rink area becomes a market place where you can buy hot dogs, local products and of course BEER.<\/p>\n
They have 3 ‘sessions’ over 2 days for the celebration. \u00a0Nick and I helped out at the Friday night event. \u00a0It was a great atmosphere and everybody had a really good time. \u00a0We had a couple of visits from the local RCMP – just to make sure people were behaving themselves – and they had employed 5 security guards (the Saturday afternoon session can be quite a handful).<\/p>\n
All told there were about 3000 people at the event from all over – we even had 4 visitors from Switzerland. \u00a0The Tatamagouche Oktoberfest is the second largest east of Ontario.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n
